Hurry Up, and Do it Perfectly

Two 10 x 20 inch canvases 1.5 inches thick that come together as a 20 x 20. Acrylic and oil pastel. Own the only original in existence. Once sold, this timeless masterpiece will never be available again.

Series: "It's Now or Never"

Inspiration: 

This is a diptych, (a painting made of two canvases side by side) that symbolizes what it's like to live with both ADHD and OCD at the same time. One side of me wants to do everything, all at once, with wild urgency. The other side wants to do it slowly, obsessively, with no mistakes.

ADHD tells me to begin right now. Paint now. Plan later. Chase every idea before it floats away. Start a new piece before the last one even has a background. It begs me to move fast or lose it.

But OCD interrupts the rush with a different voice. One that demands precision. That tells me if it isn’t perfect, it isn’t worth sharing. That I should just keep tweaking until I ruin it or shelve it forever.

This diptych lives in the middle of that push and pull.

I want to finish everything I start, but I can't call anything done until it meets impossible standards. So the result is this: a studio full of half-finished masterpieces. Over 40 paintings hiding in my closet, paused at 75% because I couldn't find the perfection I thought they needed.

Hurry Up and Do It Perfectly is about the immediate inspiration to began a painting, and the executive dysfunction and OCD that paralyzes me before I finish. It’s about the joy of creating and the feeling like it's never good enough.
