It was a big transition. I had moved from Michigan (my home state) numerous times before, but this felt different, somehow. I was overwhelmed. I had visited Seattle in the past because I was interested in the University of Washington, but I ultimately chose San Francisco for college. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis piece was originally a gestural abstract painting I made in 2020 and brought with me to Seattle. I decided to experiment with it, because the style of the painting didn't feel \"me\" anymore.  The base of the painting was big, expressive brush strokes in shades of grey and yellow ochre.  I began my experiment with a drippy black paint and began draping the painting in organic shapes. This experience helped me see that if I put my mind to it, I could do it- especially with trusting and supporting friends by my side cheering me on.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eLooking back, this camp shaped the woman I eventually became.
