(Turn off) the News
(Turn off) the News is an acrylic painting, 48 inches tall by 30 inches wide on gallery wrapped 1.5 inch-thick canvas. The sides of the painting are mirrored, so the painting continues over the sides, a frame isn’t necessary unless you prefer it. The painting comes shipped to you in a tube due to its large size.
Inspiration: When I was 26 I had moved back to Michigan after living in San Francisco, and I began having panic attacks. I saw a therapist and one of the main takeaways was that I’m a heart on your sleeve kind of gal and that I need to turn off the news and not consume media that will further upset or trigger me.
Now in my 30’s that suggestion has completely gone out the window and I watch and consume all kinds of media, but with caution. There’s a balance of keeping yourself informed, and doom scrolling until 2 am until you are in fight or flight mode.
This painting is a blueprint of a cityscape in this post-Covid world where you can decide to turn on or turn off the news.
Painting inspired also by Paramore’s album This is Why, which played in the background of making this piece.
Series: This piece is from my Art Deco body of work.
Shipping: This painting comes rolled in a tube because of its large size. Upon arrival, you will need to take it to a framer to restretch it. If you would like it to come ready to hang, an oversized shipping fee will be calculated and it will be sent in a professionally packed box. Depending on your location it can range from $100-$350
All paintings are signed, dated on the back, and come with a certificate of authenticity for your records.
