Inspiration:  

This painting is a tribute to some of my favorite memories with friends. It was inspired by my favorite T-shirt from Old Navy, which I always bring when visiting friends in Portland. The blue checkered background is inspired by Mackenzie Childs’ Royal Check pattern, which I love. My mom collects the black Courtly Check line, which holds a special place in my heart.

When I was a kid I used to associate certain days of the week with clothing, hoping that if I wore my favorite shirt or pants it would give me good luck. Looking back I think this was either from being neurodivergent or a way to cope with uncertainty, but when I saw this tshirt at Old Navy I had to have it. Not only was it a floral, but it reminded me of a shirt I wore for a family photo when I was 10. The last photo is the shirt that inspired the painting. In short, this piece is a celebration of nostalgia and traditions.
