Inspiration: When I was in college, I took an Indian Cinema class at the University of San Francisco. It was a 5-hour class where we watched a Bollywood film and then had an hour lecture afterwards, breaking the film apart and critiquing it. As much as I truly enjoyed the class, I found it testing the limits of my attention span. I think the only film I really enjoyed that was longer than 3 hours was Sholay (1975), which was VERY long, but I LOVE a good Western movie.
In the first ever lecture I sat in on for this course, the professor showed us his favorite music videos for the first hour. The first one he showed us was Tonight, Tonight, by the Smashing Pumpkins. For some reason, this memory has stuck in my mind as one of the most influential music videos I've seen, and it's stuck with me. I have millions of memories in my mind, but for some reason, the music video really resonated. I think it was almost a deja vu moment, as if I had lived through silent-era movies and felt connected to the characters. I think of the music video sometimes and how many awards it won. This painting is a nod to the influence something as small as a music video can have on your life.
