 Inspiration: 

In September of 2023, my best friend Molly came to visit me in Seattle. We both moved to the PNW around the same time, her from California and me from Michigan.

We originally met on Instagram in 2018, and we bonded over our relationships with our beloved grandpas and our love of art. Since then we've met up in person several times over the years and text daily despite being in different states.

Unchained Melody is a song we are both fond of- it reminds Molly of her childhood, and me of my grandpa. We thought long and hard about what we would name this piece, and Unchained Melody popped into my head and I thought the title was perfect.

Although the song was written for the movie "Unchained," and is thought to be about undying everlasting romantic love, we both interpret the song differently. For Molly, the song reminds her of childhood nostalgia and is one of her all-time favorite songs. For  me it reminds me of the unconditional love I received from my grandfather my entire life and the happiness I felt when I was around him. Recently, I saw my favorite band, Greta Van Fleet in concert and they covered Unchained Melody, and it made me incredibly happy. I love that art can take you to places you long for.
