Inspiration:
When I first started attending University of San Francisco, I took a journalism class.
I had been on the high school newspaper as an editor, so journalism was one of my passions, but college level journalism was much more intense.
My first ever big assignment for the university newspaper, I wrote an article about the annual Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco because the local regulations had changed the rules-no more nudity, drunkenness or parade floats.
This was a big change for the city as this foot race was basically known to be a bunch of people in costume, either dressed up or in their birthday suits who ran from one side of the city to the other and locals were passionate on both sides of the argument.
This painting captures the passion I had while investigating the story behind the evolution of the Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco, I traveled all over the city to interview officials, journalists and explore archives in libraries. It made me realize that journalism was fun, but definitely not the career for me. I’m glad I kept searching for the right career!
