Inspiration:
This painting is inspired by the sunsets seen in San Diego and California in general. I've always noticed they seem so golden and yellow like the sky is on fire, and apparently, there is a reason for this. California sunsets can appear yellow due to a phenomenon called scattering, which causes light rays to small particles and molecules in the atmosphere. When I finished this painting I felt like I had seen this scene before- it's the bridge I'd seen during my last visit to California in 2018.
I attended college in California, and visited it many times growing up. I have extremely fond memories of living in the Bay Area and visiting Southern California with friends and family. My goal is to someday move back to California, open my own studio and art gallery storefront and watch sunsets from my backyard in the evenings.
